For nearly 25 years, we at the Neighborhood Community Development Fund have worked hard to provide hope and resources for entrepreneurs in Pittsburgh’s Northside. Rooted in our commitment to fostering economic opportunity and revitalizing communities, we’ve started to extend our services over the last few years to encompass not just the Northside but the entirety of Allegheny County. Let’s explore how and why we’ve been expanding our reach to empower even more underserved communities.

A Legacy of Impact
Since our inception in 2000, we have dedicated ourselves to supporting entrepreneurs who have historically faced barriers to access capital. Emerging from the decline of heavy industry and the subsequent economic challenges on Pittsburgh’s Northside, we set out to reverse these adverse effects by providing essential financial resources. Over the years, we’ve facilitated the creation of over 2,100 jobs, developed over 400 units of affordable housing, and renovated significant commercial real estate across low-income neighborhoods.

Expanding Horizons
Recognizing the persistent need for equitable access to capital, we’ve been broadening our scope beyond the Northside to encompass all regions of Allegheny County. This expansion aims to support small businesses in neighborhoods often overlooked by traditional financial institutions, such as McKees Rocks, Wilkinsburg, the Hill District, and the Mon Valley. By doing so, we remain steadfast in our commitment to promoting entrepreneurship among women, minorities, and low-income business owners.

The Importance of Expansion
This strategic expansion has been crucial for addressing the disparities that hinder economic growth in underrepresented communities. With an increase in available resources and capital, we are aiming to close 130 loans and disburse $10 million this year. By reaching a broader audience, we ensure that more entrepreneurs gain the support necessary to thrive and contribute to community development.

Leveraging Partnerships
Collaborations with our community partners like Hilltop Alliance, Pittsburgh Hispanic Development Corporation, Wilkinsburg Community Development Corporation, and many more only amplify our capacity to effect change. These partnerships enhance technical assistance and foster environments where small businesses can flourish amid economic challenges.

Join the Journey
As we continue to embark on this expansion, our message remains the same: together, we can build stronger, more equitable neighborhoods. We invite entrepreneurs, community leaders and residents alike to become active participants on this important journey.
